Hello, and welcome to The Glossary. My name is Secretary. The being created by the God of Stories to guide you through Verses and aid you in your understanding of the ways in which this verse and the characters within function. This section is dedicated to the Scaling System, and I hope this will help you to comprehend things in the easiest way possible. Happy reading!
Lvl. 1 - 5
This section of the Scaling System is dedicated to the movement, combat speed, and reactions of characters. Please bear in mind that these speeds are solely based on MOVEMENT. Teleportation does not qualify as movement speed as it is ability related which did not use the raw speed of movement of the character and therefore not qualified under one’s ability to move one’s self from point A – B via movement.
Subsonic
Speeds moving less than the speed of sound by a factor of 10-50% the speed of sound. This is moving faster than the eye of a base human (such as yourself) can perceive. Ex: A bullet train car.
2. Subsonic+
Speeds moving less than the speed of sound by a factor of 50-90% the speed of sound. This also moves faster than the human eye but at nearly double the rate. Ex: A runaway bullet train car.
3. Transonic
Speeds moving very close to or just barely surpassing the speed of sound by a factor of 91-110% the speed of sound. Ex: A standard passenger airplane.
4. Supersonic
Speeds moving 110-250% the speed of sound. A sonic boom is usually generated when reaching this speed as the sound barrier has been broken. Ex: Most fighter jets and your standard bullet speed
5. Supersonic+
Speeds moving 250-500% the speed of sound. A sonic boom is also generated in this case. However, it is most often to double the degree of Lvl. 4. Ex: Specialized fighter jets and high powered rounds from rifles like 50cal snipers.
Lvl. 6 - 10
When approaching Relativistic, one begins to require an understanding of the Theory of Relativity. However, to avoid a long-winded lecture on physics, which I have not been authorized by the God of Stories to provide, Relativistic speeds are those where one is moving at significant percentages of the Speed of Light. So, as it was done for the sonic ranges, the practice of defining these levels will be to use the Speed of Light as the standard and separate each Relativistic range into its percentages/multipliers. I hope this makes sense to you, Dear Reader.
6. Hypersonic – Hypersonic+
Speeds moving around 5x the speed of sound to 50x the speed of sound. Ex: Moving so fast that one could travel across the span of your United States in ~50min as opposed to a commercial plane doing so in ~7hrs.
7. High Hypersonic – High Hypersonic+
Speeds moving around 50x the speed of sound to 100x the speed of sound. Ex: A space shuttle achieving escape velocity.
8. Massively Hypersonic – Massively Hypersonic+
Speeds moving around 100x the speed of sound to 1000x the speed of sound (Massively Hypersonic) and 1000x – 8,810x the speed of sound (Massively Hypersonic+) which is 1% the speed of light. Ex: Just below the speed of lightning (Massively Hypersonic) or close to or above the speed of lightning approaching light speed (Massively Hypersonic+)
9. Sub Relativistic – Sub Relativistic+
Speeds moving around 1-5% the speed of light (Sub-Rel) to 5-10% the speed of light (Sub-Rel+). Ex: A character being able to dodge lightning.
10. Relativistic – Relativistic+
Speeds moving around 10-50% the speed of light (Rel) to 50-99.9% the speed of light (Rel+). Ex: A character nearly being able to dodge or keep up with a beam of light.
Lvl. 11 - 15
While I understand that some of you may disagree with there being tiers higher than the Speed of Light, the God of Stories does not. This is his great work, and he has thus deemed the Speed of Light to not be the final tier in our system. If you have a problem with that, I’d suggest you take that up with your god(s).
These speed tiers require an understanding of Set Theory which I have once again not been authorized to explain, but I will do my best to bring these to you in the easiest way possible without causing too much confusion. These speed tiers are mainly based on the speed equation (Speed = Distance/Time), so keep that in mind as well it will help to better understand why these tiers exist in Verses.
11. Speed of Light
This is pretty self-explanatory. Speeds moving at the speed of light. More specifically the speed at which light moves in a vacuum. Ex: Moving at the same pace as a beam of light or being able to go around the Earth 7.5 times in the span of 1 sec.
12. Faster than Light (FTL)
Speeds between 1x – 10x the speed of light. Ex: Being able to slightly outpace a beam of light.
13. Faster than Light+ (FTL+)
Speeds between 10x – 100x the speed of light. Ex: Being able to casually outpace a beam of light without strain.
14. Massively FTL (MFTL)
Speeds between 100x – 1000x the speed of light. Ex: Being able to far outpace a beam of light to the point of lapping it.
15. Massively FTL+ (MFTL+)
Speeds above 1000x the speed of light while approaching speeds beyond finite quantification. Ex: Being able to casually far outpace a beam of light to the point of lapping it without strain.
Lvl. 16 - 20
16. Infinite
The ability to move and/or travel an INFINITE distance within any FINITE amount of time. Ex: Point A and B are an infinite distance apart. Character Tom can move from A to B in 20 sec while Character Sam is able to move from A to B in 15sec. Both characters have qualified for Infinite speed but Sam is still faster than Tom by a level or set into infinity.
17. Inaccessible
The ability to move and/or travel ANY distance, finite or infinite, within ZERO amount of time. Moving within an area without time does not necessarily qualify for this. The character would have to be able to move in this realm/area via their sheer movement speed alone. Ex: Point A and B are an infinite distance apart. Character Tom can move from A to B instantaneously without time having changed at all and without the use of an ability.
18. Immeasurable
The ability to move and/or travel in a NEGATIVE amount of time regardless of the distance traveled. This refers to entering a negative number as Time in the Speed Equation which is impossible to do meaning the number is incalculable or immeasurable. The character is not bound by time while in motion. Ex: Running so fast the character can move forwards or backwards in time.
19. Irrelevant
The ability to move and/or travel so fast, that the concept of Speed and its formula are irrelevant. This speed is beyond the concepts of time and distance. The character does NOT need to be outerversal to achieve this speed tier. Ex: The Flash is able to travel an outerversal amount of distance but is not outerversal himself. This is because his speed is so great that it is irrelevant but he is not outerversal.
20. Omnipresence
The ability to be present anywhere, everywhere, and nowhere at the same time. The character moves so fast that they are in all places at the same time while also not being there. Ex: When someone says “God is everywhere” and yet he is not in front of you.
